Limeuil is a joy for plein-air painters; being only accessible by foot. Originally a very busy river port at the junction of the Dordogne and V�z�re Rivers � it has been a target for wishful invaders since Roman times, often forcing inhabitants to flee to fortified higher ground at Haut-Limeuil � and this is where we find ourselves today �. traffic-free, centre of a narrow little street, looking directly to the medieval �House of Justice� where it is said that inebriated bargemen were held captive until they sobered up!
